Population
The region of Halton is comprised of four cities: Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills. The population as of 2006 was 439,256.
Culture
Halton’s proximity to both Toronto and Niagara is the gateway to a variety of activities and events. To name just a few, there is The Halton Region Museum, located beneath the Niagara Escarpment and offering a look back in time at the region’s history. Halton Health Care Services is a progressive organization that serves the entire Halton Region. It includes the Oakville Hospital, the Milton Hospital and the Georgetown Hospital and is currently in the process of building a new state of the art facility in Oakville that will surpass the current hospital in both size and capabilities. The new hospital is scheduled for completion by 2013. Currently, the Halton Healthcare Services team comprises over 2,600 employees, 1,000 volunteers and 260 family physicians and specialists. In addition, there is also the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital located in Burlington.
