Population

The region of Halton is comprised of four cities: Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills. The population as of 2006 was 439,256.

Culture

Halton’s proximity to both Toronto and Niagara is the gateway to a variety of activities and events. To name just a few, there is The Halton Region Museum, located beneath the Niagara Escarpment and offering a look back in time at the region’s history. There are other great museums, art galleries and theatres throughout the area, including the Lucy Maud Montgomery Museum and The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum. For art lovers, there are a number of galleries to visit, including the Oakville Art Society which offers not only galleries, but art lessons as well. Burlington is also home to the Royal Botanical Gardens, Canada’s largest Botanical Gardens. The Halton Region also features many great festivals, including the Sweet Water Season every March and the Maple Syrup Festival in Oakville.

Standard of Living

The Region of Halton is a wonderful place to live. Surrounded by the beauty of the Niagara Escarpment, one gets the best of both worlds; close to Toronto while still able to enjoy the local flora and fauna that Halton provides. Education

Halton is comprised of both the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board. There aren’t many post-secondary institutions in Halton Region, but due to the close proximity to both Toronto and Hamilton, options are close at hand. In addition, Oakville is home to Sheridan College, a renowned animation and business studies insitute with over 15,000 full-time students.

Health Care

Halton Health Care Services is a progressive organization that serves the entire Halton Region. It includes the Oakville Hospital, the Milton Hospital and the Georgetown Hospital and is currently in the process of building a new state of the art facility in Oakville that will surpass the current hospital in both size and capabilities. The new hospital is scheduled for completion by 2013. Currently, the Halton Healthcare Services team comprises over 2,600 employees, 1,000 volunteers and 260 family physicians and specialists. In addition, there is also the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital located in Burlington.

Buying a Home in Halton

The Halton Region is an excellent place to consider buying a home.
