Population

Vaughan is considered part of York Region, an area just North of Toronto. It has a population of just over 260,000 and is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Canada. Its nickname is “The City Above Toronto” and includes Woodbridge, Thornhill, Maple and Kleinburg.

Culture

Culturally diverse, Vaughan is home to the largest theme park in Canada – Canada’s Wonderland – drawing people from across North America. In addition, Vaughan is home to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, an extensive art gallery featuring Native American and Canadian artists. Vaughan is also home to the Kortright Conservation Area, Canada’s largest environmental education center. Standard of Living

Vaughan is a safe and vibrant community while still being part of the Greater Toronto Ontario (GTA). Vaughan’s future looks strong. There are plans for new urban centers in three separate locations, as well a separate expansion in Woodbridge. According to Statistics Canada, employment in Vaughan is also expected to grow from 119,719 in 2001 to 178,070 in 2011. Vaughan also has the second largest amount of vacant commercial land in the GTA, and a good portion of that is ready to be developed which should lead to further job growth. Finally, the Quality of Life in Vaughan is quite high, with an average income 31% above the national average.

Education

Vaughan is part of the York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board, both of which are highly regarded networks of elementary and secondary schools. In addition, York University is located on the Toronto side of the Toronto-Vaughan border. With over 43,000 students, it’s one of the largest Universities in Canada.

Health Care

Vaughan is the largest city in Canada to not have its own hospital, however its proximity to Toronto allows residents access to some of the largest and most advanced medical centers in the country. Two in particular, Humber River Regional Hospital and York Central Hospital service the residents of Vaughan. York Central is one of Ontario’s fastest growing community hospitals.

Vaughan is a desirable place to live and offers home buyers a vast selection of new and traditional home styles, with single detached homes being the most common. The current average price of a detached home in Vaughan is $433,971, but prices vary depending on the type of home you are looking to purchase. There has been a recent increase in the development of new townhouses and condominium buildings.
